2015 - 50 Years of BHEL | Commemorative Coin
The second commemorative coin for the year 2015 was released to mark 50 Years of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL).
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), a government-owned enterprise headquartered in New Delhi, India, stands as a prominent power plant equipment manufacturer, operating as a leading engineering and manufacturing company. Established in 1964, BHEL holds the distinction of being India's largest engineering and manufacturing entity in its category. The company has consistently recorded profits since 1971-72 and has been paying dividends without interruption since 1976-77.
Originally founded in 1964, BHEL expanded its scope through the merger with Heavy Electricals (India) Limited in 1974. Recognizing the need to diversify, the company ventured into power equipment in 1982 to mitigate its reliance on the power sector. This strategic move enabled BHEL to develop the capability to manufacture a diverse range of electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment for various sectors, encompassing transmission, transportation, oil and gas, and other allied industries. In 1991, BHEL underwent the transition to a public limited company.
By the close of 1996, BHEL had successfully delivered 100 Electric Locomotives to the Indian Railways and installed 250 Hydro-sets across India, showcasing its commitment to technological advancements and infrastructure development.
In recognition of its golden jubilee in 2014, BHEL celebrated 50 years of excellence with a specially designed logo for the occasion, and a series of events and festivities unfolded throughout the year to commemorate this significant milestone.
