Kolkata Mint Opens Bookings for Raja Ram Mohan Roy Coin Sets

The India Government Mint, Kolkata has opened the bookings for  ₹250 commemorative coin  issued to mark 250th Birth Anniversary of  Raja Ram Mohan Roy .  The bookings are open from May 24, 2023, and it is subject to limited availability. Earlier, the Hon’ble Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Culture, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, released the ₹250 coin and a special postal stamp to mark the occasion on May 22, 2023 at Belvedere House, home to The National Library of India in Kolkata. The event was attended by Shri Rajat Paul, Chief General Manager, India Government Mint, Kolkata, Ms. Priyanka Chandra, Director, Ministry of Culture, Shri Sukanta Majumdar, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and State President, BJP West Bengal, along with other distinguished guests. The Hon’ble Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Culture, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, released the ₹250 commemorative coin and a special postal stamp to mark the 251st Birth Anniversary of Raja Ram Mohan Roy on May 22, 2023. The ceremony took place at the historic Belvedere House, home to The National Library of India in Kolkata, providing a culturally rich and fitting backdrop for honouring one of India’s greatest reformers. New Commemorative Coin: Raja Ram Mohan Roy

The Government of India will be issuing a Rs 250 commemorative coin to celebrate the 250th Birth Centenary of Raja Ram Mohan Roy . The Ministry of Finance has issued the gazette notification on 4th July 2022 confirming the same. Ram Mohan Roy (22 May 1772 – 27 September 1833) was an Indian reformer who was one of the founders of the Brahmo Sabha in 1828, the precursor of the Brahmo Samaj, a social-religious reform movement in the Indian subcontinent. He was given the title of Raja by Akbar II, the Mughal emperor. His influence was apparent in the fields of politics, public administration, education and religion. He was known for his efforts to abolish the practices of sati and child marriage. Roy is considered to be the "Father of the Bengal Renaissance" by many historians. The metal composition of the coin will be  Quaternary Alloy  (50% Silver, 40% Copper, 5% Nickel and 5% Zinc). The weight of the coin will be 35 grams and 44 mm in diameter with 200 serrations at ...
