The collaboration between Security Printing & Minting Corporation of India Ltd (SPMCIL) and India Post offers an interesting opportunity at the intersection of numismatics and philately. For collectors, a coin and a stamp issued for the same theme provide two distinct official representations of an important personality, event or national milestone. However, despite the obvious connection between the two, coordinated joint collectors' products have remained relatively uncommon in India. In 2019, India Post introduced a presentation pack, the first of its kind in India, combining a commemorative coin with philatelic material. The pack issued to mark the 150th Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi contained a ₹150 coin, one First Day Cover (FDC) and a Miniature Sheet. The India Government Mint has set new rules by implementing a one order per person policy on its official e-commerce portal. This move has been widely welcomed by collectors, as most of the recent bookings were reportedly being blocked by dealers who created a black market by purchasing large quantities and reselling them at inflated prices.  By introducing this restriction, the Mint aims to ensure that every genuine collector gets an equal opportunity to own the newly issued commemorative coins . It is now mandatory to furnish a PAN (Permanent Account Number) to buy coins on the India Government Mint’s online portal. On the earlier SPMCIL website, providing a PAN was compulsory, but after the platform was migrated to a new version a few years ago, this feature was not retained. The Union Minister for Finance, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, inaugurated the new corporate office of the Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited (SPMCIL), along with the Union Minister of State for Finance, Shri Pankaj Chaudhary, at the World Trade Centre, Nauroji Nagar, New Delhi, on June 9, 2025. The event was also attended by Ms. Anuradha Thakur, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), senior officials from the Ministry of Finance, members of the SPMCIL Board, senior officers of SPMCIL, and representatives from employee unions.
