MoF issues Gazette Notification for Smt. Vijaya Raje Scindia Coin

The Government of India will issue a commemorative coin of ₹100 to mark the ' Birth Centenary of Smt. Vijaya Raje Scindia .' The Ministry of Finance issued the gazette notification on June 04, 2019, confirming the coin. Vijaya Raje Scindia (12 October 1919 – 25 January 2001), born Lekha Divyeshwari Devi and popularly known as the Rajmata of Gwalior, was a prominent Indian political personality. Inspired by the freedom movement after completing her education, she actively joined the struggle for independence. With a strong belief in educating the girl child and women empowerment, she dedicated herself to these causes. The  metal composition  of the ₹100 coin will consist of a Quaternary Alloy, comprising 50% Silver, 40% Copper, 5% Nickel, and 5% Zinc. The coin will weigh 35 grams and have a diameter of 44 mm, featuring 200 serrations along the edge. The coin's description is as follows. The Government of India has decided to celebrate the Birth Centenary of Vijaya Raje Scindia. The 12-member National Implementation Committee (NIC), headed by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, will outline programs and activities for year-long celebrations, commencing from October 11, 2018, to October 11, 2019. A commemorative coin of denomination Rs 100 and a commemorative postage stamp are proposed to be released in her honor during the commemoration period. Additional activities that may be undertaken include seminars, lectures, publications, and programs focused on women empowerment.
