New Commemorative Coin: 75 years of Azad Hind Government

Amidst a political discourse over the legacies of key national leaders who significantly contributed to the country's freedom movement, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi hoisted the national flag at the historic Red Fort to commemorate the 75th foundation day of the Azad Hind Fauj, also known as the Indian National Army (INA), raised by 'Netaji' Subhas Chandra Bose. On December 30, 2018, Prime Minister Modi is set to arrive in Port Blair, where he will unfurl a 150-foot-long national flag as part of the celebrations marking the platinum jubilee of the establishment of the INA. The Prime Minister will also unveil a postal stamp and a commemorative coin in honour of 'Netaji' Subhas Chandra Bose. Following these ceremonies, he will visit the Cellular Jail, a historical site where numerous freedom fighters were incarcerated during British rule. Art on Coins - India & the World

This is an exhibition of artistic ancient coins, currency, and stamps at the National Centre of the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai. The collection showcases art in various forms, including portraits, scripts, and representations of nature and culture. Mr. Mohit Kapoor, the South Asia Regional Secretary for the Oriental Numismatic Society, whose Journal is edited from London, will be the Guest of Honour for the event. Mohit, who co-authored the book "Nawabs & Kings of Awadh and its Coinage," holds a Master's Degree in Numismatics and Archaeology. As a Director at the Pune-based Auction Firm, Imperial Auctions, he also leads the Center of India Numismatic Studies (COINS) to disseminate numismatic knowledge. Other highlights of the event include "Learn Ancient Script on Coin," "Coin Expert Speak," and "Read & Refer books." A model of Vasai Fort will be on display, featuring exhibits from the collections of historian and coin research

Minting of Rs 10 coins reduced due to shortage in raw material

A delay in the procurement of raw materials for coins has compelled the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to cut its demand for Rs 10 coins by half, raising concerns of a potential shortage in circulation. The RBI, responsible for managing the supply, adjusted the entire coin indent plan for FY19 by increasing the demand for smaller denominations of coins instead of Rs 10 coins. This decision was made due to the failure of India Government Mints to procure Rs 10 coin blocks on time, according to official documents. The Security Printing & Minting Corporation of India (SPMCIL), overseeing four government minting units in Kolkata, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Noida, informed the RBI in August about the unavoidable delays in the procurement of Rs 5 and Rs 10 coin blocks, leading to a revision in the denomination-wise production plan. Consequently, the four units under SPMCIL were instructed to mint 200 crore pieces of Rs 10 coins, a reduction from the previous indent of 400 crore pieces. This dec
