The Vice President Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu released a commemorative coin of Rs 125 and a circulation coin of Rs 5 denomination on the occasion of Statistics Day and the 125th Birth Anniversary of P.C. Mahalanobis on Friday. The Vice President hailed Prof. Mahalanobis as an iconic visionary who pioneered the introduction of statistics to the Indian subcontinent. He emphasized, "His vision, unwavering focus, and his application-driven research in the field of statistics form the cornerstone of the modern official statistical system implemented in our country today." This signifies the first commemorative coin for the year 2018, crafted by the India Government Mint, Kolkata.

The theme for Statistics Day this year revolves around 'Quality Assurance in Official Statistics.'
