PM Modi Releases ₹50 Coin on Golden Jubilee of Sikkim's Statehood

The Hon'ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, virtually released a ₹50 commemorative coin , a postal stamp and a souvenir today, May 29, 2025, to mark 50 Glorious Years of Sikkim's Statehood , during a ceremony held at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok. Due to weather conditions, the Prime Minister attended the event virtually, while the commemorative coin, postal stamp and souvenir were physically released by the Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur, and the Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang.  The Government of Sikkim has launched a year-long celebration under the theme “Sunaulo, Samriddha, and Samarth Sikkim”. PM Modi to Release ₹50 Coin for Sikkim’s Golden Jubilee

The Hon'ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, is scheduled to release a ₹50  commemorative coin  on the occasion of the  50 Glorious Years of Sikkim's Statehood  on May 29, 2025, at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok. The ceremony is expected to be graced by the Chief Minister, Shri Prem Singh Tamang, along with other ministers and distinguished dignitaries. The  Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang, on May 14, 2025, announced that the Prime Minister will visit Sikkim to commemorate the occasion. Sikkim, the picturesque Himalayan state, marked 50 years since its merger with the Indian Union, which took place on May 16, 1975. To commemorate this historic milestone, the state celebrated 50 Glorious Years of Statehood on May 16, 2025. New Commemorative Coin: 50 Glorious Years of Statehood – Sikkim

The Government of India will issue a ₹50  commemorative coin  on occasion of 50 Glorious Years of Statehood – Sikkim . The Ministry of Finance issued a gazette notification on May 13, 2025, confirming this coin. Sikkim, a picturesque Himalayan state, will celebrate 50 years of its merger with the Indian Union, which took place on May 16, 1975. To mark this historic milestone, the state will host the Golden Jubilee Conclave in 2025. The event will honor Sikkim’s remarkable journey as a progressive, eco-friendly, and culturally rich region. With vibrant cultural displays and meaningful discussions, the conclave will reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and envision a sustainable future. The  metal composition  of the ₹50 coin will consist of Pure Silver (99.9%). The coin will weigh 40 grams and have a diameter of 44 mm, featuring 200 serrations along the edge.
