President Releases ₹100 Coin at HBTU Kanpur Centenary Celebrations

The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, released the ₹100 commemorative coin and postage stamps during the centenary celebrations of Harcourt Butler Technical University in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on November 25, 2021. The Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Smt. Anandiben Patel, and other dignitaries were also present. The President highlighted that HBTU has gained recognition for its significant contributions in the fields of oil, paint, plastic, and food technologies. The illustrious history of the institution is intricately linked to India's industrial development from the early 20th century. The technology and human resources provided by HBTU have played a pivotal role in establishing Kanpur's reputation as the 'Manchester of the East,' the 'Leather City of the World,' and an 'Industrial Hub.' New Commemorative Coin: Harcourt Butler Technical University, Kanpur

The Government of India will be issuing ₹100  commemorative coin  on occasion of ' Harcourt Butler Technical University Kanpur Centenary Celebrations '. The Ministry of Finance issued the gazette notification on November 18, 2021, confirming the coin. The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind will visit Uttar Pradesh (Kanpur) to grace and address the centenary celebrations of Harcourt Butler Technical University on November 25, 2021.  The metal composition of the ₹100 coin will consist of a Quaternary Alloy, comprising 50% Silver, 40% Copper, 5% Nickel, and 5% Zinc. The coin will weigh 35 grams and have a diameter of 44 mm, featuring 200 serrations along the edge. The coin's description is as follows. Obverse:   The face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capital of Ashoka Pillar in the center with the legend "सत्यमेव जयते" inscribed  below, flanked  with the  word “भारत” and  "INDIA" at right and left periphery of the coin with Rupee Symbol "₹” and

New Coin Series: 75th Year of Independence

The Government of India will be issuing the new definitive series on occasion of 75th Year of Independence with denominations of ₹1, ₹2, ₹5, ₹10, and ₹20. This initiative marks a significant milestone in honouring India's journey towards freedom and independence. The Ministry of Finance has issued the gazette notification on November 8, 2021. The " Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav " encapsulates the progressive essence of India's socio-cultural, political, and economic identity. The official journey of "Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav" commenced on March 12, 2021, with a 75-week countdown leading up to the 75th anniversary of Independence. The culmination of this commemorative celebration is scheduled for August 15, 2022, marking a year-long reflection on India's journey towards freedom. The  metal composition  of the ₹1 coin is Ferritic Stainless Steel, weighing 3.09 grams, and having a diameter of 20 mm. The ₹2 coin is made of Ferritic Stainless Steel, weighs 4.07 gr

RBI to Roll Out New Polymer Banknotes!

The transition from paper to polymer currency banknotes appears to be imminent. Over the past decade, India has yet to adopt polymer or plastic banknotes and has instead adhered to the conventional practice of printing on paper made from cotton rags. Polymer or plastic banknotes offer enhanced durability as they are more resistant to tearing, folding, and microorganisms (antibacterial). Additionally, they perform more efficiently in ATMs and automated sorting operations. Despite being twice as costly to produce, these notes have a lifespan 2.5 to 4 times longer than those printed on cotton-based substrate. Furthermore, polymer notes present a higher level of security against counterfeiting. The Indian government has intermittently discussed plans to introduce polymer banknotes, only to have them shelved repeatedly.
