New Definitive Coin Series Shortlisted

The Government of India is preparing to introduce a new definitive coin series that will include denominations of ₹1, ₹2, ₹5, and ₹10.

This upcoming series marks a significant update to India’s circulating coinage, with fresh themes and designs reflecting the nation’s evolving priorities. 

The release is tentatively expected towards the end of this year, after which the coins will gradually enter general circulation through the Reserve Bank of India. A formal gazette notification from the Ministry of Finance, which is expected soon, will officially confirm the launch.

The themes selected for this series—‘Agriculture,’ ‘Digital India,’ ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao,’ and ‘Swachh Bharat’—represent four vital pillars of India’s development agenda. 

Each theme is likely to be depicted through thoughtful design elements, highlighting India’s commitment to technological progress, cleanliness and sanitation, and the agrarian backbone of the nation. These thematic choices suggest a purposeful attempt to create a series that is not only functional for everyday transactions but also meaningful in its symbolism.

Adding to the excitement is growing speculation around the possible introduction of a new ₹20 bi-metallic coin as part of the series. If released, it would become the second bi-metallic coin in regular circulation after the ₹10 coin, marking an important milestone in India’s modern coinage.

Unsurprisingly, this announcement has generated considerable enthusiasm within the numismatic community. Collectors eagerly await the new designs, mintmarks, and variations that will accompany this series, viewing it as an opportunity to enrich their collections with contemporary yet significant additions. The forthcoming gazette notification will provide the final confirmation and details, setting the stage for one of the most anticipated coin releases in recent years.

Kolkata Mint Commences Bookings for RSS Coin Sets

The India Government Mint, Kolkata, has commenced the bookings for the ₹100  commemorative coin  issued to mark the 100 Years of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The bookings are open from October 7, 2025, and it is subject to limited availability. Earlier, on October 1, 2025, the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, unveiled the commemorative coin along with a special postal stamp to mark the event at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi. The ₹100 coin is currently available in the Proof Set, packaged with a booklet pack. It remains to be seen whether the Mint will also issue the UNC Set with a booklet pack or the Proof Set with an MDF box.  The ₹100 coin is priced at ₹8,410 for the Proof Set, which comes packaged with a booklet pack.
