The metal composition of the ₹400 coin will consist of a Quaternary Alloy, comprising 50% Silver, 40% Copper, 5% Nickel, and 5% Zinc. The coin will weigh 35 grams and have a diameter of 44 mm, featuring 200 serrations along the edge. The coin's description is as follows.

The obverse side of the coin features the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar at the center, accompanied by the inscription "सत्यमेव जयते" below. The words “भारत” and "INDIA" are inscribed at the right and left periphery of the coin, respectively. The Rupee Symbol "₹” and denomination value “400” in International Numerals are positioned below the Ashoka Lion Capitol.

On the reverse side, the coin showcases the image of “Gurudwara Guru Ka Mahal, Amritsar” at the center. Two swords encompass the image of the Gurudwara. Below the image, a ribbon label with the text “400 ਸਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਗੁਰਪੁਰਬ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਜੀ” (Sal Prakash Gurupurb Shri Guruteg Bahadur Ji) in Panjabi is displayed. Additionally, the text “ਗੁਰੂਦੁਆਰਾ ਗੁਰੂਕੇਮਹਹਲ ਸ਼ਰੀ ਅਹਮਰਤਸਰ” (Gurudwara Gurukmahal Shri Ahmartsar) in Panjabi is inscribed beside the image of the Gurudwara, and the text “ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਭਏ ਗੁਰੂਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਸਗਲ ਗੁਰੂਦੁਆਰਾ ਗੁਰੂਕੇਮਹਹਲ ਸ਼ਰੀ ਅਹਮਰਤਸਰ” (Gurteg Bahadur Sagal Hasist Pedhapi Chadarin) in Panjabi is inscribed on top of the image of the Gurudwara. On the upper periphery of the coin, the inscription "श्री गुरु तेग बहादुर जी का 400 वर्षीय प्रकाश गुरुपर्व" in Hindi is depicted, and on the lower periphery, the inscription "400th Birth Anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji" in English is displayed. The years 1621-2021 in international numerals are written below the image of Gurudwara Guru Ka Mahal, Amritsar.

Notably, the commemorative coin is rich in text, making it particularly appealing to numismatists and collectors.
