New Commemorative Coin: Centenary Year of the University of Delhi

The Government of India is set to issue a ₹100 commemorative coin to mark the Centenary Year of the University of Delhi, celebrating a century of academic excellence and contributions to India’s educational and cultural landscape.

The University, widely known as Delhi University, will officially begin its centenary celebrations on May 1, 2022, with a series of events and initiatives planned throughout the year.

On March 3, Vice-Chancellor Shri Yogesh Singh announced several programs to commemorate the milestone, emphasizing that the celebrations aim to honor the unsung heroes of Delhi University—teachers, scholars, and alumni—whose work has contributed significantly to the nation’s development from the pre-independence era to the present day. Among the highlights of the centenary events are the launch of a commemorative coin and a postage stamp, both symbolizing the university’s rich heritage and enduring legacy.

Additionally, the Vice-Chancellor unveiled the centenary logo and tagline, selected through a university-wide competition. The winning design, created by Kratika Khinchi, a student of Gargi College, reflects the university’s spirit, achievements, and aspirations for the future.

The ₹100 commemorative coin is expected to be issued soon, pending the official gazette notification from the Ministry of Finance, and will serve as a tribute to Delhi University’s remarkable journey over the past 100 years.
