New Commemorative Coin: 50 Years of Project Tiger

The Government of India will be issuing a ₹50 commemorative coin on occasion of 50 years of Project Tiger. The Ministry of Finance issued a gazette notification on March 23, 2025, confirming this coin.

Project Tiger is a wildlife conservation initiative launched by the Government of India in 1973 to protect the Bengal tiger and its natural habitats. It aims to curb the declining tiger population due to poaching, habitat loss, and human-wildlife conflict. Under the project, tiger reserves have been established across India, combining strict protection measures, habitat management, and community participation. Project Tiger has not only helped stabilize tiger populations in many regions but has also contributed to the broader conservation of biodiversity. Today, it remains one of India’s most significant wildlife protection programs.
