GOI to issue ₹1000 coin on Khartargachha Sahastrabdi Mahotsav

The Government of India has given consent to issue a ₹1000 commemorative coin on the occasion of 1000th year celebration of Shvetambara Khartargachha Sangh.

Shri Om Prakash Sakhlecha, Cabinet Minister - MSME, Science & Technology Dept. Minister, Government of Madhya Pradesh shared the above letter on social media by expressing his gratitude to Shri Pankaj Chaudhary, Minister of State for Finance of India and Government of India on behalf of Jain Samajjans. He further stated that the commemorative coin will not only be a part of an existing ceremony, but will also inspire us towards our rich historical heritage and our religious and cultural heritage.

The letter stated that Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India (SPMCIL) is advised to prepare the design and share with the proposer 'Shri Khartargachha Sahastrabdi Mahotsav Samiti' for further necessary process for minting and release of the commemorative coin.

Kharatargaccha was founded by Vardhamana Sūri. His pupil, Jineshvara, got honorary title 'Kharatara' because he defeated Suracharya, leader of Chaityavasis in public debate in 1023 at Anahilvada Patan. So the Gaccha also got his title. Khartara also means that "which is beyond" (tara) "purity" (khara), that is, being upright with the absolute truth, by following the religious scriptures without deviation (Jain Agamas) as it is. Another tradition regards Jinadatta Suri (1075-1154) as a founder of Gaccha.

This will be the third commemorative coin with ₹1000 denomination after 1000 Years of Brihadeeswarar Temple, Thanjavur in 2010 and Shri Jagannath Nabakalebara in 2018.

The gazette notification from Ministry of Finance is awaited for fletch more details about the commemorative coin.
