New Commemorative Coin: Dr. Panjabrao Alias Bhausaheb Deshmukh

The Government of India will issue a commemorative coin of ₹125 to mark the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Panjabrao Alias Bhausaheb Deshmukh. The Ministry of Finance issued a gazette notification on December 21, 2023, confirming this coin.

Pandurangrao Shamrao Deshmukh (27 December 1898 – 10 April 1965), commonly known as Bhausaheb Deshmukh, was a prominent social activist and a leader dedicated to the welfare of farmers in India. He served as the Minister of Agriculture in the inaugural cabinet of Jawaharlal Nehru in 1952.

The metal composition of the ₹125 coin will consist of a Quaternary Alloy, comprising 50% Silver, 40% Copper, 5% Nickel, and 5% Zinc. The coin will weigh 35 grams and have a diameter of 44 mm, featuring 200 serrations along the edge. The coin's description is as follows.

Obverse: The face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the center with the legend "सत्यमेव जयते" inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word “भारत” in Devanagari script and on the right periphery with the word “INDIA” in English. It shall also bear the Rupee symbol “₹” and denominational value “125” in the international numerals below the Lion Capitol.

Reverse: This face of coin shall bear the image of Dr. Panjabrao Alias Bhausaheb Deshmukh. The inscription “डॉ. पंजाबराव उपाख्य भाऊसाहेब देशमुख” and “125 वीं जयंती” in Devanagari script shall be written on the upper periphery. The inscription “Dr. Panjabrao Alias Bhausaheb Deshmukh” And “125th Birth Anniversary” in English shall be written on the lower periphery of the coin. The year "1898” and “2023” in international numerals shall be flanked on the left and right side of the image of Dr. Panjabrao Alias Bhausaheb Deshmukh.
