FM Releases Souvenir Tokens on SPMCIL's 19th Foundation Day

The Hon'ble Union Finance Minister, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, released the commemorative souvenir tokens during the 19th Foundation Day celebrations of the Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited (SPMCIL) through digital mode.

The souvenir tokens include 'Endangered Animals of India - Great One-Horned Rhinoceros,' featuring the endangered species found in India. Another token showcases 'Ayodhya Ram Mandir' with a colored image of Shri Ram Lala on one side and an image of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir on the other side. Additionally, there is a bi-metallic souvenir token highlighting the 'Enlightenment of Buddha'.

Shri Ajay Seth, Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Finance, and Shri Vijay Ranjan Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, along with the Board of Directors of SPMCIL, were active participants in the event. Various senior officers from the Ministry of Finance joined in virtually. The program was attended virtually by personnel from diverse units of SPMCIL.

During her address at the event, Union Finance Minister Smt. Sitharaman commended SPMCIL for its production of various security products, such as Bank Notes, Security Paper, Postal Stamps, Passports, Medallions, and more. Smt. Sitharaman expressed appreciation for SPMCIL's thoughtful approach in minting the 'Visually Impaired Friendly' Coin Series. Additionally, she acknowledged SPMCIL's recent initiatives, particularly the production of e-Passports with a Track and Trace system, emphasizing the heightened security measures and the added convenience of information associated with this innovative undertaking.

The Union Finance Minister underscored that the souvenir products crafted by SPMCIL are bestowed by the Government of India upon dignitaries from other nations during international forums, garnering widespread appreciation on a global scale.

Among these three tokens, the 'Ayodhya Ram Mandir' souvenir is expected to be the most awaited among collectors. It would have been even more special if they had opted for a commemorative coin release instead of the souvenir token, adding significant numismatic value to the occasion.

Undoubtedly, the news was initially reported by Shri Prem Pues Kumar, a Numismatist affiliated with Hobby Encyclopedia.

The online indicated price for the 'Great One-Horned Rhinoceros' token is ₹1,287, the 'Gautam Buddha' token is priced at ₹3,657, and the 'Ayodhya Ram Mandir' souvenir token is priced at ₹5,092.

These souvenir tokens are available at Mint Premises as well as on the India Government Mint's official website.
