New Commemorative Coin: 90 Years of Reserve Bank of India

The Government of India will issue a commemorative coin of ₹90 on occasion to mark the 90 Years of Celebration of Reserve Bank of India. The Ministry of Finance issued a gazette notification on March 19, 2024, confirming this coin.

A momentous milestone approaches for the Reserve Bank of India as it marks its 90th year of existence and operation on April 1. Throughout its journey, the Reserve Bank has solidified its reputation as a credible institution, synonymous with stability, trust, and economic progress. In recent times, it has emerged as a trailblazer in driving innovation and technology adoption within the financial sector. Prioritizing customer-centricity and financial inclusion has always remained at the forefront of its agenda.

The Reserve Bank's unwavering dedication to maintaining a delicate equilibrium among price stability, financial resilience, and external sector stability has yielded significant dividends, propelling the country towards a path of heightened growth in the years ahead. As India assumes a prominent position in the evolving global landscape, the invaluable contributions of the Reserve Bank are increasingly acknowledged both domestically and internationally.

The metal composition of the ₹90 coin will consist of Pure Silver (99.9%). The coin will weigh 40 grams and have a diameter of 44 mm, featuring 200 serrations along the edge. The coin's description is as follows.

Obverse: The face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the center with the legend "सत्यमेव जयते" inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word “भारत” in Devanagari script and on the right periphery with the word “INDIA” in English. It shall also bear the Rupee symbol “₹” and denominational value “90” in the international numerals below the Lion Capitol.

Reverse: This face of coin shall bear the logo of Reserve Bank of India in the centre of the coin. The inscription “भारतीय रिज़र्व बैंक”shall be written in Devanagari script on the upper periphery of the coin and the inscription “Reserve Bank of India” in English shall be depicted on the lower periphery of the coin. “RBI@90” shall be written below the logo of the Reserve Bank of India.

This marks the inaugural issuance of the ₹90 denomination in Republic India coinage. This release will also signifies the third commemorative coin dedicated to the Reserve Bank of India, with previous issuances in 1985 to celebrate its Golden Jubilee and in 2010 on the occasion of its Platinum Jubilee.
