New Commemorative Coin: Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi

The Government of India will issue a commemorative coin with a denomination of ₹100 to mark the 'Birth Centenary of Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi'. The Ministry of Finance issued a gazette notification on September 6, 2024, confirming this coin.

Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi was the founder of Sahaja Yoga, a spiritual movement that promotes self-realization through meditation and the awakening of inner energy. Born on March 21, 1923, in India, she dedicated her life to spreading a message of peace, self-awareness, and spiritual enlightenment. Shri Mataji's teachings emphasized the importance of inner balance and harmony, and she traveled worldwide to share her knowledge and guide people on their spiritual journeys. Her legacy continues to inspire millions of followers globally.

The metal composition of the ₹100 coin will consist of a Quaternary Alloy, comprising 50% Silver, 40% Copper, 5% Nickel, and 5% Zinc. The coin will weigh 35 grams and have a diameter of 44 mm, featuring 200 serrations along the edge. The coin's description is as follows.

Obverse: The face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the center with the legend "सत्यमेव जयते" inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word “भारत” in Devanagari script and on the right periphery with the word “INDIA” in English. It shall also bear the Rupee symbol “₹” and denominational value “100” in the international numerals below the Lion Capitol.

Reverse: The face of the coin shall bear the portrait of 'H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi' in the centre. The year '1923' in international numerals shall be inscribed on the left side and the year '2023' shall be inscribed on the right side of the image. Below the image of 'H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi,' the year '2024' shall be inscribed. On the upper periphery of the coin, the inscription 'परम पूज्य श्री माताजी निर्मला देवी की जन्म शताब्दी' shall be written in Devanagari script, and the inscription 'Birth Centenary of H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi' in English shall be inscribed on the bottom periphery of the coin.
