1960 - One Rupee Pattern Coin

A pattern coin was struck in the year 1960 though the first one rupee after adoption of decimal system in 1957 was in the year 1962.

However, the One Rupee Pattern coin was stuck apparently in the year 1960 by Bombay Mint with the legend “सौ नया पैसा” and "रुपया", while the coin in circulation from 1962 says "रुपया" and “Rupee”. Also other coins in circulation from 1957 to 1962 says “रूपैया का ____ भाग”.

Apparently some numismatists say, this one rupee coin was disapproved due to non-accordance with the prevailing currency law. All currencies in India must be bilingual. The inscription on this coin show "सौ नया पैसा" (100 new paisas) on the top and "रुपया" below the 1 where both texts are in Hindi which was contrary the currency law and should have been "एक रुपया" on top and "Rupee" below the 1, although all the lower denomination coins from 1957 to 1970 had the value inscription only in Hindi.
