1995 - 8th World Tamil Conference (Saint Thiruvalluvar) | Commemorative Coin

The first commemorative coin for the year1995 was issued to mark the 8th World Tamil Conference.

The International Association of Tamil Research (IATR) was established in 1964 with a commitment to advancing Tamil studies. Over the years, the IATR has played a pivotal role in fostering scholarly engagement by organizing conferences and seminars on Tamil studies every four years. These academic gatherings have been hosted in diverse locations, including India, Sri Lanka, France, Maldives, Mauritius, and Malaysia—regions with significant Tamil-speaking populations.

One of the esteemed figures in Tamil literature and philosophy is Saint Thiruvalluvar, affectionately known as Valluvar. Renowned for his profound contributions, he is celebrated as the author of the Tirukkuṟaḷ. This monumental work comprises couplets covering a wide spectrum of topics, including ethics, political and economic matters, and expressions of love. The Tirukkuṟaḷ stands as an exceptional piece of Tamil literature, revered for its wisdom and enduring relevance.

The IATR's dedication to promoting Tamil studies through international conferences contributes to the preservation and advancement of the rich cultural and intellectual heritage embedded in the Tamil language. Through scholarly exchange and collaboration, the association continues to play a vital role in the global dissemination of Tamil knowledge and literature.

The Government of India will issue a  commemorative coin  of ₹90 on occasion to mark the 90 Years of Celebration of Reserve Bank of India . The Ministry of Finance issued a gazette notification on March 19, 2024, confirming this coin. RBI Coin Sets Now Available at India Govt Mint's Delhi Counter

The ₹90  commemorative coin  issued to celebrate the  90 Years of Reserve Bank of India  (RBI) is now available at the Sales Counter at India Government Mint's Corporate Office in New Delhi. The ₹90 coin, featured in the Proof Set and offered in Folder/Blister packaging, is priced at ₹4950 as of April 18, 2024. However, online bookings for the commemorative coin have not yet begun, and there may be a difference in online pricing. It's important to note that the  metal composition  of this ₹90 coin is Pure Silver (99.9%), weighing 40 grams with a diameter of 44 mm. It also features 200 serrations along the edge. The ₹90 is minted by India Government Mint, Kolkata.
