2022 - Akshaya Tritiya | Mint Souvenir Token (Kolkata Mint)

A gold souvenir token was released by Kolkata Mint in 2022 to celebrate Akshaya Tritiya festival.


Akshaya Tritiya, also known as Akti or Akha Teej, is an annual Hindu and Jain spring festival. It falls on the third tithi of the bright half of the month of Vaisakha. It is regionally observed as an auspicious day by Hindus and Jains in India, it signifies the "third day of unending prosperity". 

Akshaya’ in Sanskrit symbolizes ‘Never Decreasing’ and ‘Tritiya’ means ‘third phase of the moon’. Legend has it that it was on this day that “Lord Krishna” gave Draupadi a ‘PATRA’ or a ‘Pot’ that has a never-ending supply of food for the ‘Pandavas’ symbolizing ‘Abundance and Prosperity’. Also the ‘Akshaya Tritiya’ is the day of prosperity’ and the day the ‘God of wealth’. ‘Lord Kubera’ received his riches from ‘Lord Shiva’. Gold generally means good fortune and prosperity for a family or business but any good deed like ‘Starting a new venture’, Business, deed or ‘Start Accumulating Wealth like ‘Gold’ never ends or is ever remains, increases but never ends. Hence Precious Gold brought home or Gifted on ‘Akshaya Tritiya’ signify never diminishing good fortune.

It is named after the third lunar day of the spring month of Vaisakha in the Hindu calendar, when it is observed.
