New Series of ₹1 Coins Expected to Enter Circulation Soon!

In 2019, the Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched the new definitive series of Indian coins, marking a significant milestone in the country’s numismatic history.  This series includes denominations of ₹1, ₹2, ₹5, ₹10, and ₹20, each featuring updated designs, improved minting quality, and enhanced durability. The ₹2, ₹5, and ₹10 coins were introduced into circulation the same year, while the ₹20 coin gradually became available to the public in the second half of 2020. Despite the announcement and anticipation, the new ₹1 coins for the years 2019 and 2020 have not yet appeared in circulation, leaving collectors and the general public eagerly awaiting their release. According to the Reserve Bank of India’s Annual Reports, substantial quantities of these new ₹1 coins were minted and supplied to the RBI’s chests—approximately 1,093 lakh units in the financial year 2019–20 and another 1,000 lakh units in 2020–21. Refusal of the New ₹20 Coins by Many Raises Concerns

An unusual situation has arisen in numerous cities in India, where traders, shopkeepers, and vendors are refusing to accept the newly introduced ₹20 coins. This scenario echoes the past issue with ₹10 coins when rumors circulated about their authenticity. Unfortunately, many citizens remain unaware of the existence of the new ₹20 coin. The newly minted ₹20 coins are produced at all four mints, namely Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Noida. These mints have dispatched consignments of coins to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), which, in turn, distributes them to banks through regional offices. Despite these efforts, some uninformed citizens are casting doubt on the coins and refusing to accept them. Officials are actively working to raise awareness, but the response remains lukewarm. New Commemorative Coin: Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji

The Government of India will issue a  commemorative coin  of ₹400 to mark the occasion of 400th Birth Anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji . The Ministry of Finance issued the gazette notification on April 29, 2021, officially confirming the release of the coin. Gurudwara Guru Ka Mahal Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, the ninth Sikh Guru, is revered as the “Hind dī Chādar” for his supreme sacrifice to protect religious freedom and human dignity. A spiritual luminary and poet-saint, he emphasized compassion, courage, and the importance of rising above fear and attachment. His martyrdom in 1675 stands as a timeless symbol of selflessness, as he willingly gave his life to defend the rights of others, regardless of their faith. His teachings, preserved in the Guru Granth Sahib, continue to inspire humanity toward righteousness, peace, and universal brotherhood.
