Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman Launches First Colour Souvenir Coin on "Panchatantra"
The Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, presiding over the event via virtual mode, launched the inaugural colour souvenir coin on "Panchatantra." marking the 17th Foundation Day program of Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited (SPMCIL).
The ceremony was attended by the Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Ministry of Finance (MoF), Senior Economic Advisor of DEA, MoF, and other senior officials from the Ministry. Also present were the Director (HR) and Director (Finance) of SPMCIL.
Ms. Tripti Patra Ghosh, CMD, SPMCIL, in her welcome address, highlighted the Company’s achievements and its various innovative initiatives.
On the occasion, the Chief General Managers of the nine respective units felicitated meritorious employees for their outstanding contributions and performance.
In her address, the Finance Minister emphasized the importance of upskilling, acquiring new competencies, and continuous upgradation to meet the demands of a technology-driven economy. She further stressed the need to enhance product quality and position SPMCIL as a leading producer of currency and other sovereign products.
The obverse of the coin features the colored logo of SPMCIL along with the year. On the reverse, there is an image depicting the Panchatantra tale "The Foolish Lion and The Clever Rabbit," encircled by the legend.
According to the reports, the souvenir coin will be minted by India Government Mint, Kolkata, and the issue price is expected to be around ₹1500.
