The 4th commemorative coin of 2023 was released to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee Year of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) stands as India’s premier investigative agency, entrusted with tackling complex criminal cases that demand expertise, impartiality, and national-level coordination. Established in 1963, the CBI evolved from the Special Police Establishment, which was originally created during World War II to probe corruption in wartime procurement. Its role has expanded in response to emerging challenges, making it an indispensable pillar of India’s justice and accountability framework.

The CBI functions under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, but operates with a mandate that emphasizes professionalism and autonomy. It draws its powers from the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, and its investigations often require coordination with state police forces, central agencies, and international bodies. The agency consists of specialized divisions, including anti-corruption units, economic offences wings, special crime branches, and cyber investigation cells, enabling it to handle cases of varying complexity with technical precision.
