PM Modi to Release ₹300 Coin on Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Holkar
The Hon'ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, is scheduled to release a ₹300 commemorative coin, and postage stamp to mark the 300th Birth Anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar on May 31, 2025, at Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
The ceremony is expected to be graced by the Chief Minister, Shri Mohan Yadav, Minister of Culture, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, along with other ministers and distinguished dignitaries.
Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Holkar was a revered queen of the Malwa kingdom in the 18th century, renowned for her wisdom, justice, and unwavering dedication to public welfare. Born in 1725, she ascended to the throne of Indore after the untimely deaths of her husband and son, ruling with exceptional administrative acumen and spiritual fortitude. Ahilyabai is celebrated for her immense contributions to infrastructure and religion, having commissioned the construction of numerous temples, dharamshalas, and wells across the country, including in sacred sites such as Kashi, Somnath, and Rameshwaram. Her reign is often hailed as a golden era, marked by peace, prosperity, and compassionate governance that uplifted her people.
The Chief Minister Shri Mohan Yadav announced on May 19, 2025, that the Prime Minister will visit Bhopal on May 31 to address a grand Women's Convention at the Jamboree Ground. This convention, dedicated to the 300th birth anniversary of Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, will inaugurate a year-long commemoration in her honour and will emphasize themes of women’s empowerment and self-reliance. According to an official release, approximately one lakh women are expected to attend the event, which is being organized by the Department of Panchayat and Rural Development, Government of Madhya Pradesh, with support from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
During this historic event, a commemorative coin and postage stamp will be unveiled in honour of Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Holkar. Notably, this will include the release of the first-ever commemorative coin with a ₹300 denomination in the history of Republic India coinage. The ₹300 coin will not only celebrate the tricentennial of Ahilyabai Holkar’s birth but also serve as a symbol of her enduring legacy and contributions to nation-building. Minted with intricate design elements representing her life and works, the coin is expected to become a treasured collectible for numismatists and a proud tribute to one of India’s most iconic female rulers.

The Ministry of Finance issued a gazette notification on May 23, 2025, officially confirming the issuance of this coin. This commemorative coin is reportedly minted by the India Government Mint, Kolkata. Additionally, several more commemorative coin releases are expected this year, as outlined in the upcoming and possibility section.
