2019 - Guru Nanak Dev Ji | Commemorative Coin
The 7th commemorative coin for the year 2019 was released on occasion of 550th Prakash Purab of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Originally announced as the '550th Prakash Utsav of Shri Guru Nanak Dev
Ji,' the commemoration was later revised to the '550th Prakash Purab of
Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.'
Guru Nanak Dev Ji (29 November 1469 – 22 September 1539), revered as the founder of Sikhism and the first of the ten Sikh Gurus, is commemorated annually on Guru Nanak Gurpurab, observed on Kartik Pooranmashi, the full-moon day in the month of Katak (October–November).
His profound teachings traverse the essence of oneness, emphasizing the presence of one God in all creations and embodying the eternal Truth. Guru Nanak Ji established a unique spiritual, social, and political framework grounded in principles of equality, fraternal love, goodness, and virtue.
The sacred verses of Guru Nanak Ji, consisting of 974 poetic hymns, are enshrined in the holy text of Sikhism, the Guru Granth Sahib. Key prayers, including the Japji Sahib, the Asa di Var, and the Sidh-Ghost, encapsulate the spiritual essence of Sikhism.
Sikh religious belief holds that the sanctity, divinity, and religious authority of Guru Nanak descended upon each of the nine subsequent Gurus as they assumed the Guruship. This sacred lineage is preserved in the teachings and practices embedded in Sikh tradition.
