New Commemorative Coin: 2800th Nirvan Kalyanak of Parshvanath Bhagwan

The Government of India will issue a ₹800 commemorative coin on the occasion of 2800th Nirvan Kalyanak of Parshvanath Bhagwan. The Ministry of Finance issued a gazette notification on November 18, 2024, confirming this coin.

The 2800th Nirvan Kalyanak of Parshvanath Bhagwan marks a significant milestone in the Jain community, celebrating the liberation (nirvana) of the 23rd Tirthankara. Parshvanath Bhagwan, known for his teachings of non-violence, truth, non-stealing, and non-possession, attained moksha at Mount Sammed Shikhar, a revered site for Jains. This occasion is observed with devotion, including prayers, rituals, and reflections on his teachings, inspiring followers to embrace compassion and spiritual growth.

The metal composition of the ₹800 coin will consist of Pure Silver (99.9%). The coin will weigh 40 grams and have a diameter of 44 mm, featuring 200 serrations along the edge. The coin's description is as follows.

Obverse: The face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the center with the legend "सत्यमेव जयते" inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word “भारत” in Devanagari script and on the right periphery with the word “INDIA” in English. It shall also bear the Rupee symbol “₹” and denominational value “800” in the international numerals below the Lion Capitol.

Reverse: This face of the coin shall bear the image of the idol of Parshvanath Bhagwan with background design. The inscription “पार्श्वनाथ भगवान का 2800 वां निर्वाण कल्याणक” shall be written in Devanagari script on the upper periphery of the coin and the inscription “2800th Nirvan Kalyanak of Parshvanath Bhagwan” in English shall be depicted on the lower periphery of the coin. The year “2024” shall be written below the idol in international numbers.

For the first time in the history of Republic India coinage, a coin with the denomination of ₹800 is being issued. Equally remarkable is the introduction of a ₹900 coin, commemorating the 2900th Janm Kalyanak of Parshvanath Bhagwan. While both coins share the same theme honoring Parshvanath Bhagwan, their unique denominations are sure to captivate collectors, sparking excitement and enthusiasm to acquire these extraordinary pieces. The upcoming and possibility coins page have been updated for your reference.
