New Commemorative Coin: 2900th Janm Kalyanak of Parshvanath Bhagwan
The Government of India will issue a ₹900 commemorative coin on the occasion of 2900th Janm Kalyanak of Parshvanath Bhagwan. The Ministry of Finance issued a gazette notification on November 18, 2024, confirming this coin.
The 2900th Janm Kalyanak of Parshvanath Bhagwan marks the birth of the 23rd Tirthankara, celebrated by Jains worldwide. Parshvanath Bhagwan is revered for his teachings of Ahimsa (nonviolence), Satya (truth), Asteya (non-stealing), and Aparigraha (non-possession), which continue to inspire millions on the path of spiritual growth and ethical living. This auspicious occasion reflects on his divine birth and the profound impact of his principles, which promote peace, compassion, and harmony. The 2900th Janm Kalyanak is observed with prayers, rituals, pilgrimages, and charitable acts, honoring his timeless legacy and teachings.
The metal composition of the ₹900 coin will consist of Pure Silver (99.9%). The coin will weigh 40 grams and have a diameter of 44 mm, featuring 200 serrations along the edge. The coin's description is as follows.
Obverse: The face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the center with the legend "सत्यमेव जयते" inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word “भारत” in Devanagari script and on the right periphery with the word “INDIA” in English. It shall also bear the Rupee symbol “₹” and denominational value “900” in the international numerals below the Lion Capitol.
Reverse: This face of the coin shall bear the image of the idol of Parshvanath Bhagwan with background design. The inscription “पार्श्वनाथ भगवान का 2900 वां जन्म कल्याणक” shall be written in Devanagari script on the upper periphery of the coin and the inscription “2900th Janm Kalyanak of Parshvanath Bhagwan” in English shall be depicted on the lower periphery of the coin. The year “2024” shall be written below the idol in international numbers.
For the first time in the history of Republic India coinage, a coin with the denomination of ₹900 is being issued. Equally remarkable is the introduction of a ₹800 coin, commemorating the 2800th Nirvan Kalyanak of Parshvanath Bhagwan. Both coins honor Parshvanath Bhagwan with the same theme, but their unique denominations are sure to captivate collectors, generating excitement and enthusiasm to add these extraordinary pieces to their collections.
