PM Modi Releases ₹60 Coin on Central Bureau of Investigation
The Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi released the ₹60 commemorative coin, postage stamp and special cover to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today, on April 3, 2023 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
The Union Minister of State for Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Shri Jitendra Singh, National Security Advisor to PM, Shri Ajit Doval, Cabinet Secretary, Shri Rajiv Gauba and Director of CBI Shri Subodh Kumar Jaiswal were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister congratulated everyone on the Diamond Jubilee of the CBI, noting its 60-year journey as India’s premier investigative agency. He highlighted the launch of a collection of Supreme Court judgments related to the CBI, new offices, digital handles, and facilities that strengthen the Bureau. Emphasizing CBI’s reputation, he remarked, “CBI’s name is on everyone’s lips. It is like a brand for truth and justice.”
The Prime Minister urged the Bureau to continuously upgrade itself, plan for the future, and contribute to building a Viksit Bharat in the Amrit Kaal. He praised CBI’s multi-disciplinary capabilities and stressed its key role in combating corruption, which undermines democracy, hampers development, and promotes nepotism. Recalling the legacy of corruption at the time of Independence, he noted how past scams and policy paralysis stalled growth, while post-2014 reforms focused on transparency, action against black money, benami properties, and improved governance mechanisms such as GeM, DBT, and the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act.
Highlighting direct benefits to citizens, he cited the Jan Dhan–Aadhaar–Mobile trinity that eliminated fake beneficiaries and saved ₹2.25 lakh crore from going into wrong hands. He also referenced reforms in recruitment, urea distribution, and defense procurement to enhance transparency and self-reliance.
The Prime Minister underscored the need to speed up investigations, adopt best international practices, and hold the corrupt accountable without fear, emphasizing that political will now exists to act decisively. He encouraged eliminating silos between agencies, using forensic science extensively, and leveraging technology and young tech-savvy officers to combat cyber and multinational crimes. He concluded by urging continuous innovation and institutional evolution to ensure the CBI remains an effective guardian of law and justice.
This release marks the 4th commemorative coin of the year 2023, minted by the India Government Mint, Mumbai. The bookings are expected to open soon on the India Government Mint's website and will be updated in the current and upcoming bookings section.
