2023 - National Cadet Corps | Commemorative Coin

The 2nd commemorative coin of 2023 was released to celebrate the 75 years of Raising of National Cadet Corps (NCC).

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) stands as one of India’s most prominent uniformed youth organisations, dedicated to nurturing discipline, leadership, and national consciousness among students. Established under the National Cadet Corps Act of 1948, the NCC was created with the vision of involving young citizens in nation-building and preparing them to contribute meaningfully to society. Over the decades, it has grown into a vibrant tri-services body, comprising the Army, Navy, and Air Force wings, offering students a unique opportunity to experience military training, character development, and community service.

From its inception, the NCC has aimed to instil in cadets a strong sense of duty, resilience, and commitment to the nation. The training provided goes beyond physical drills and exercises, focusing on values that shape responsible and confident individuals. Cadets participate in weapon training, adventure activities, map reading, sailing, flying, and various leadership programmes designed to foster teamwork and decision-making skills. These experiences leave a lasting impact on young minds, opening avenues for personal and professional growth.

One of the hallmarks of the NCC is its emphasis on social responsibility. Cadets are regularly involved in community development initiatives such as blood donation drives, environmental campaigns, Swachh Bharat activities, disaster relief efforts, and awareness programmes on issues like health, literacy, and civic duties. Their prompt and organised response during natural calamities has earned them nationwide respect, showcasing their resolve and disciplined training.

The organisation also provides a stage for national integration by bringing together students from different regions, cultures, and backgrounds. Camps such as the Republic Day Camp, National Integration Camps, and Youth Exchange Programmes encourage cultural understanding and unity. These interactions strengthen the spirit of “Unity and Discipline,” which is also the NCC’s enduring motto. The Republic Day Camp, in particular, is a prestigious event where select cadets get the honour of participating in the Republic Day Parade, an experience cherished for a lifetime.

For many young Indians, the NCC also serves as a gateway to careers in the armed forces. Cadets with exceptional performance may receive incentives such as preference in recruitment or special certificates that support their aspirations. Even beyond defence careers, the skills and values acquired—leadership, confidence, punctuality, and teamwork—greatly enhance their prospects in various fields.
