Possible Coins to Look Forward this Year and Early 2024

It's raining  commemorative coins , with the first six months of 2023 witnessing as many as nine releases—and many more expected in the coming months. The coins for  Shri N. T. Rama Rao  and  Shri Jawaharlal Darda  have already been gazette-notified and are likely to be released within the next couple of months. Additionally, several more potential themes may be issued in the near future. Kolkata Mint Opens Bookings for Rath Yatra Souvenir Tokens

The India Government Mint, Kolkata opened the bookings of  souvenir tokens  in Gold and Silver on occasion of ' Rath Yatra 2023 ' festival  from June 20, 2023. This year, the Puri Rath Yatra will take place on June 20 and culminate on June 28, 2023.  The souvenir tokens features the image of Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra with the Puri temple at the background. The gold tokens are available in two variants: a 10-gram token priced at ₹65,663.02 and an 8-gram token priced at ₹52,581.29. The silver token is issued only in a 50-gram variant, priced at ₹4,235.22 as of June 20, 2023. Earlier, in 2010, the India Government Mint, Kolkata issued a 20-gram silver souvenir token to mark the Rath Yatra, and in 2018, ₹1,000 and ₹10 coins were released to mark Shree Jagannath Nabakalebara Festival. The VVIP Coin Set Scandal Shaking the Numismatic Market

In recent times, there has been a major scandal involving fake VVIP coin sets being sold as originals at numismatic exhibitions, online platforms, and social-networking sites. These counterfeit sets are produced with the intention of deceiving collectors or unsuspecting buyers into believing they are acquiring genuine and valuable pieces. Tower-type sets are usually presented to delegates invited as Guests of Honour for the release of commemorative coins . These sets are extremely limited—typically restricted to only 5–6 pieces—while frame sets are even rarer, often limited to just one or two issued by the India Government Mint. Over the last five to six years, several tower-type and frame-type sets were illicitly manufactured by a particular dealer and sold at exorbitant prices. These sets generally appear only after the official coin bookings open at the India Government Mint. Kolkata Mint to Open Bookings for New Parliament Complex Coin Sets

The India Government Mint, Kolkata, will be opening the bookings for the ₹75  commemorative coin  issued on  New Parliament Complex . The bookings are open from June 12, 2023, and it is subject to limited availability. Earlier, the Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi released the coin and postal stamp while dedicating the New Parliament Building to the Nation, on May 28, 2023 in New Delhi. The Speaker of Lok Sabha, Shri Om Birla, and Deputy Speaker of Rajya Sabha, Shri Harivansh Narayan Singh were present on the occasion among others. The  ₹75 coin in  Proof Set is priced at ₹3,684 and UNC Set at  ₹3,397  for the Folder/Blister package. However, the Proof Set with MDF Box is priced at  ₹4,417. These coin sets can be purchased either at the mint premises or through the  official website  of the India Government Mint, with updates available in the  current and upcoming bookings  section.
