Possible Coins to Look Forward this Year and Early 2024

It's raining commemorative coins, with the first six months of 2023 witnessing as many as nine releases—and many more expected in the coming months. The coins for Shri N. T. Rama Rao and Shri Jawaharlal Darda have already been gazette-notified and are likely to be released within the next couple of months. Additionally, several more potential themes may be issued in the near future.

• G20 Summit 2023
  India holds the Presidency of the G20 and the issue of coins on this theme is more or less confirmed as Shri Ajay Agarwal, Director (Finance) of Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India (SPMCIL) hinted about the issue of the commemorative coin in an interview at World Money Fair 3-5 Feb 2023, Berlin, Germany.
  
  
• 75 Years of Hyderabad State Liberation
  The year 2023 marks the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Hyderabad State in India. The government has announced a year-long event to mark 75 years of the liberation of Hyderabad state - the former princely state's merger with the rest of India. The event will be inaugurated on September 17, 2023 and a commemorative coin and postage stamp is anticipated.

• 150th Birth Anniversary of Vithalbhai Patel
  Vithalbhai Patel (27 September 1873 – 22 October 1933) was an Indian legislator and political leader, co-founder of the Swaraj Party and elder brother of Sardar Patel. The event will be celebrated at Karamsad town in Anand district.
  
  
• Birth Centenary of Kailashpati Mishra
  Kailashpati Mishra (5 October 1923 – 3 November 2012) was an Indian politician. He was a leader of Jana Sangh, and later Bharatiya Janta Party. He was Finance Minister of Bihar in 1977. He was Governor of Gujarat from May 2003 to July 2004. The Government of India issued a postal stamp in his honour in 2016.
  
  
• ICC Cricket World Cup 2023
  The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, which will be the 13th edition of the Men’s Cricket World Cup, has been scheduled between 5 October 2023 and 19 November 2023. A possibility of a commemorative coin is likely to be issued as this will be the first ICC World Cup event completely hosted by India.
  
  
• Ayodhya Ram Mandir
  The commemoration of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir aims to bring people together, foster unity, and celebrate the shared cultural and spiritual heritage associated with Lord Ram. It's scheduled to happen on Makar Sankranti in January 2024.
  
  
• 75th Year of Republic India
  The commemoration of the 75th year of the Republic of India will be a momentous occasion for the nation. Various events and celebrations are likely to take place throughout the country, highlighting India's achievements, progress, and the values enshrined in the constitution.
  
  
• Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati
  The Government of India might issue ₹200 commemorative coin on the occasion of the 200th Birth Anniversary of a renowned social reformer and the founder of the Arya Samaj, scheduled for the celebration on February 12, 2024.
  
  
• Atal Bihari Vajpayee
  The Birth Centenary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, one of India's most prominent political figures, is scheduled on December 25, 2024. However, it may happen early due to Lok Sabha elections next year. A ₹100 coin was issued in 2018 during the celebrations of Good Governance Week.

Several surprise coins were issued in 2023. However, the possibility of any new release is confirmed only after the gazette notification is issued by the Ministry of Finance.

Many commemorative coins are often released in connection with government events or for political significance. Historically, the only years to witness such a high number of releases were 2015 and 2016, with ten and nine coins respectively.
