Kolkata Mint Begins Bookings for Ol Chiki Script Coin Sets

The India Government Mint, Kolkata, has commenced the bookings for the ₹100  commemorative coin  issued to mark the Centenary Year of Ol Chiki Script by Pandit Raghunath Murmu . The bookings are open from February 25, 2026, and it is subject to limited availability. Earlier, on February 16, 2026, the Hon'ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, unveiled the commemorative coin and a postal stamp to mark the occasion at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi. The event was attended by the Union Minister of Culture & Tourism, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Shri Jual Oram, Chief Minister of Odisha Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, and members of the Fagun Foundation. It also brought together members of the Santhali community, scholars, activists, writers, and well-wishers who participated in the historic celebration, making the occasion grand and memorable. Droupadi Murmu, unveiled a ₹100 commemorative coin  and a postal stamp to mark the Centenary Year of the Ol Chiki Script created by Pandit Raghunath Murmu  today, on February 16, 2026 at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi. New Commemorative Coin: Ol Chiki Script by Pandit Raghunath Murmu

The Government of India will issue a ₹100  commemorative coin  to mark the  100 years of Ol Chiki Script by Pandit Raghunath Murmu . The Ministry of Finance issued a gazette notification on February 9, 2026, confirming this coin. The Ol Chiki script was created by Pandit Raghunath Murmu in 1925 to provide the Santhali language with its own distinct and scientifically designed writing system. It was developed to accurately represent the phonetic structure of Santhali, which earlier scripts failed to capture effectively. Ol Chiki enabled widespread literacy among the Santhal community and became a powerful symbol of cultural identity, self-respect, and linguistic independence. Today, it remains central to Santhali literature, education, and cultural expression. The  metal composition  of the ₹100 coin will consist of a Quaternary Alloy, comprising 50% Silver, 40% Copper, 5% Nickel, and 5% Zinc.
