PM Modi Releases New Visually Impaired Friendly Coin Series

The Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, unveiled the new definitive series of visually impaired-friendly coins in denominations of ₹1, ₹2, ₹5, ₹10, and ₹20 today, March 7, 2019, in a special event at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, New Delhi.  The ceremony highlighted the government’s commitment to inclusive currency design, ensuring that visually impaired citizens can confidently identify and use the nation’s coins in everyday transactions. The event was attended by Union Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley and Minister of State for Finance Pon Radhakrishnan, alongside PM Modi.  The ₹1, ₹2, ₹5, and ₹10 coins in the series are circular in shape and prominently feature denominations inscribed in Devanagari, along with other differentiating tactile and visual features to assist the visually impaired. Govt of India Announces New Coin Series with ₹20 Coin

The Government of India will issue a new definitive coin series featuring designs of grains, symbolizing the agricultural dominance of the country. The Ministry of Finance issued a gazette notification on March 6, 2019, confirming the launch. This includes the introduction of the ₹20 Bi-metallic coin for general circulation. The new coin series includes denominations of One Rupee, Two Rupees, Five Rupees, Ten Rupees, and Twenty Rupees, which will be coined at the Mint for issue under the authority of the Central Government. The metal composition of the ₹1 coin is Ferritic Stainless Steel, weighing 3.09 grams, and having a diameter of 20 mm. The ₹2 coin is made of Ferritic Stainless Steel, weighs 4.07 grams, and has a diameter of 23 mm, featuring 50 wider serrations on the edge. New Commemorative Coin: Paramahansa Yogananda

The Government of India will issue a ₹125  commemorative coin  to mark the  125th Birth Anniversary of Paramahansa Yogananda . The Ministry of Finance made this announcement through a gazette notification on February 26, 2019, confirming the same. Paramahansa Yogananda was an Indian Hindu monk, yogi, and guru who introduced millions to meditation and Kriya Yoga through his organisation, Self-Realization Fellowship / Yogoda Satsanga Society of India – the only organization he established to disseminate his teachings The metal composition of the ₹100 coin will consist of a  Quaternary Alloy , comprising 50% Silver, 40% Copper, 5% Nickel, and 5% Zinc. The coin will weigh 35 grams and have a diameter of 44 mm, featuring 200 serrations along the edge. The coin's description is as follows.
