New Commemorative Coin: Paramahansa Yogananda
The Government of India will issue a commemorative coin of Rs 125 to
mark the 125th Birth Anniversary of Paramahansa Yogananda. The Ministry
of Finance made this announcement through a gazette notification on
February 26, 2019, confirming the same.
Paramahansa Yogananda was an Indian Hindu monk, yogi, and guru who
introduced millions to meditation and Kriya Yoga through his
organisation, Self-Realization Fellowship / Yogoda Satsanga Society of
India – the only organization he established to disseminate his
teachings
The metal composition of the ₹100 coin will consist of a Quaternary Alloy, comprising 50% Silver, 40% Copper, 5% Nickel, and 5% Zinc. The coin will weigh 35 grams and have a diameter of 44 mm, featuring 200 serrations along the edge. The coin's description is as follows.
The obverse side of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the center with the legend "सत्यमेव जयते" inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word “à¤ारत” in Devanagari script and on the right periphery with the word “INDIA” in English. It shall also bear the Rupee symbol “₹” and denominational value “125” in the international numerals below the Lion Capitol.
The reverse side of the coin shall bear the portrait of Paramahansa Yogananda. The inscription "परमहंस योगानंद की 125 वीं जयंती" in Devanagari script and “125th Birth Anniversary of Paramahansa Yogananada” in English shall be written on the top periphery and lower periphery of the coin. The year "1893 - 2018” in international numeral shall be flanked at bottom of the portrait.
In addition to this, there are a couple of other possible commemorative coin releases scheduled for later this year.
