RBI to Introduce New Rs 20 Banknote Soon

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is set to introduce a new Rs 20 currency note, as revealed in an official document from the central bank. The upcoming Rs 20 bank note will showcase the "Ajanta Cave" of Maharashtra, accompanied by the Swachh Bharat logo and slogan on its reverse side. The iconic placement of Mahatma Gandhi's image remains unchanged. This move follows the central bank's issuance of redesigned currency notes in denominations such as Rs 10, Rs 50, Rs 100, and Rs 500. Additionally, the RBI has introduced higher-value notes, including Rs 200 and Rs 2,000. In an interesting development, there is a likelihood of a new Rs 20 bi-metallic coin being introduced in the coming months, although this is expected to take a few more months for implementation. PM Modi releases Paika Bidroha Commemorative Coin

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, released a commemorative coin of ₹200 along with postage stamps marking the Bi-Centenary of Paika Bidroha . The Paika Rebellion (Paika Bidroha) was fought against British rule in Odisha in 1817. Regarding the Paika Rebellion, the Prime Minister announced the establishment of the Bakshi Deenbandhu Chair at the prestigious Utkal University. He stated that this Chair would focus on researching subjects related to all nationalist movements, including the Paika Rebellion. Odisha Governor Shri Ganeshi Lal, Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Naveen Patnaik, Union Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, among others, were present on the occasion. This marks the second commemorative coin released today and the fourth coin for the year 2018, with the   ' First Flag Hoisting Day ' scheduled for later this week.

PM Modi releases the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Commemorative Coin

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, released a commemorative coin of Rs 100 in honor of former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee , who passed away this year. The coin was released just a day before Vajpayee's 94th birth anniversary. Speaking at an event to release the coin in memory of Vajpayee, PM Modi said, 'The mind is not ready to believe that Atal Ji is no longer with us. He was a stalwart, loved and respected across all sections of society.' "As a speaker, he was unparalleled. He is among the best orators our nation has produced," PM Modi continued. PM Modi to Release Three Commemorative Coins in a Week

The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will release three commemorative coins this week. On December 24th, 2018, the first coin of ₹100 denomination will be released to mark the Birth Anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee in New Delhi, and the second coin of ₹200 denomination will be released to mark the Bicentenary of Paika Bidroha in Bhubaneswar. The Minister of State for Culture, Shri Mahesh Sharma, made the announcement. The third commemorative coin, with a denomination of ₹75, will be released with the theme ' First Flag Hoisting Day ' on December 30th, 2018, at Port Blair, marking the 75th Anniversary of the Hoisting of the Tricolour by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. The Ministry of Finance has earlier issued gazette notifications for all three commemorative coins. However, none of these themes includes smaller denomination coins for general circulation. This might possibly reflect a new policy shift by the government regarding commemorative coins.

New Commemorative Coin: Atal Bihari Vajpayee

The Government of India will be issuing a ₹100 commemorative coin to mark the Birth Anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee .  The Ministry of Finance has issued the gazette notification today confirming the same. Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who passed away on August 16 this year at the age of 93, served as the Prime Minister of India for 13 days in 1996, 13 months in 1998, and for almost six years from 1999. In his honour, several places have been renamed, including four Himalayan peaks and Chhattisgarh's Naya Raipur, which has been renamed Atal Nagar. The Uttarakhand government has also decided to rename Dehradun airport after the former prime minister, and Lucknow's renowned 'Hazratganj Chauraha' will be renamed Atal Chowk. The Government of India will be issuing a commemorative coin with a Rs 200 denomination to mark the Bicentenary of Paika Bidroha . The Ministry of Finance has issued the gazette notification on December 4th, 2018. The metal composition of the ₹200 coin will consist of a Quaternary Alloy, comprising 50% Silver, 40% Copper, 5% Nickel, and 5% Zinc. The coin will weigh 35 grams and have a diameter of 44 mm, featuring 200 serrations along the edge. The coin's description is as follows. The obverse side of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the center with the legend 'सत्यमेव जयते' inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word 'भारत' in Devanagari script and on the right periphery with the word 'INDIA' in English. Kolkata Mint Opens Bookings for Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and P C Mahalonobis Coins

The India Government Mint, Kolkata, has opened bookings for c ommemorative coins in Proof and UNC sets issued to mark the ' 500th Birth Anniversary of Shri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's Coming to Vrindavan ' and ' 125th Birth Anniversary of Prasanta Chandra Mahalonabis '. The bookings are open for a period of 3 months from December 10, 2018, to March 11, 2019. The Shri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu set includes two coins, one of ₹500 and the other of ₹10. The Proof Coin Set is priced at ₹3802, while the UNC Set is priced at ₹3277. For the P C Mahalonabis set, which includes two coins of ₹125 and ₹5, the Proof Coin Set is priced at ₹3798, and the UNC set is priced at ₹3274. Additionally, the Kolkata Mint has reopened bookings for commemorative coins issued for  Shrimad Rajchandra ,  Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya ,  Tatya Tope , and  Biju Patnaik .  The rebooking prices for Shrimad Rajchandra and Tatya Tope are ₹3922 for the Proof Set and ₹3318 for the UNC Set.
