PM Modi releases Paika Bidroha Commemorative Coin

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, released a commemorative coin of ₹200 along with postage stamps marking the Bi-Centenary of Paika Bidroha.

The Paika Rebellion (Paika Bidroha) was fought against British rule in Odisha in 1817. Regarding the Paika Rebellion, the Prime Minister announced the establishment of the Bakshi Deenbandhu Chair at the prestigious Utkal University. He stated that this Chair would focus on researching subjects related to all nationalist movements, including the Paika Rebellion.

Odisha Governor Shri Ganeshi Lal, Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Naveen Patnaik, Union Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, among others, were present on the occasion.

This marks the second commemorative coin released today and the fourth coin for the year 2018, with the 'First Flag Hoisting Day' scheduled for later this week.
