PM Modi Releases Atal Bihari Vajpayee ₹100 Commemorative Coin

The Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi released a ₹100 commemorative coin in honor of former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who passed away earlier this year. The release took place a day before Vajpayee’s 94th birth anniversary, marking a heartfelt tribute to one of India’s most admired leaders.

The event was attended by several prominent dignitaries, including Lok Sabha Speaker Smt. Sumitra Mahajan, Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley, Minister of State for Culture Shri Mahesh Sharma, BJP National President Shri Amit Shah, and veteran BJP leader Shri Lal Krishna Advani, who shared a long association with Vajpayee.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said that it is still difficult to accept that Shri Vajpayee is no longer with us. He described him as a national stalwart who was loved and respected across all sections of society. Shri Modi noted that for decades, Shri Vajpayee’s voice echoed the aspirations of the people, and as an orator, he was unmatched—one of the finest speakers India has ever produced.

The Prime Minister further remarked that although a significant part of Shri Vajpayee’s political journey was spent in the opposition, his commitment to the national interest never wavered. He consistently championed the strength and sanctity of India’s democratic values. Shri Modi expressed confidence that Shri Vajpayee’s life, leadership, and ideals will continue to inspire future generations.

This commemorative coin marks the third release of the year 2018, with the coins for ‘Bicentenary of Paika Bidroha’ and ‘First Flag Hoisting Day’ also scheduled for release later this week.

The bookings are expected to open soon on the India Government Mint's website and will be updated in the current and upcoming bookings section.
