A souvenir token was issued on Dada Gurudev Shri Jindutt Suri Ji marking 871 years of his spiritual legacy and the historic Chadar Mahotsav held in his honour at Jaisalmer.

Dada Gurudev Shri Jindutt Suri Ji, also known as Acharya Jinadattasuri, was one of the most revered Jain spiritual leaders of medieval India and an eminent Acharya of the Khartar Gachchha tradition of Shvetambara Jainism. He is remembered for his profound spiritual wisdom, strict adherence to Jain principles, and his efforts to strengthen the monastic tradition during a period marked by social and political challenges. His life and teachings have left a lasting impact on the Jain community, and he continues to be venerated by devotees with deep reverence as “Dada Gurudev.”

Born in Dhokla, Gujarat during the 11th century, a time when the region was a vibrant center of Jain learning and culture, Shri Jindutt Suri Ji displayed extraordinary intellectual ability and spiritual inclination from an early age. Inspired by the ideals of Jainism—particularly the principles of non-violence, truth, compassion, and renunciation—he embraced monastic life and dedicated himself to spiritual discipline and scholarship. Through years of rigorous study, meditation, and ascetic practice, he rose to the distinguished position of Acharya, becoming a respected spiritual guide within the Khartar Gachchha order.

Acharya Jindutt Suri Ji played a crucial role in strengthening Jain religious practices and reviving monastic discipline. Through his teachings, sermons, and travels across various regions of India, he inspired monks and lay followers to uphold the ethical values and spiritual traditions of Jainism. He emphasized purity of conduct, devotion to scriptural study, and the preservation of Jain philosophical teachings. His influence helped consolidate the Khartar Gachchha sect and ensured the continuity of Jain learning and traditions for future generations.

The spiritual legacy of Dada Gurudev Shri Jindutt Suri Ji remains deeply embedded in Jain history and devotion. According to tradition, when he attained samadhi in Ajmer around Vikram Samvat 1211, his body was cremated, yet his sacred garments—such as the chadar, chola patta, and muhapatti—miraculously remained completely intact in the flames. These garments later became revered relics among the Jain community. They were initially preserved in Patan in Gujarat and were eventually brought to Jaisalmer, where they have been safeguarded for centuries in the historic Gyan Bhandar.

Over the centuries, devotion to Dada Gurudev has continued to flourish, especially in regions such as Rajasthan and Gujarat. Temples and shrines dedicated to him attract thousands of devotees who seek his blessings and guidance. His life and teachings continue to inspire followers to live with humility, discipline, and compassion, embodying the fundamental Jain ideals of non-violence, spiritual purity, and service to society. Even today, many devotees believe that his spiritual presence remains a guiding force, making Dada Gurudev Shri Jindutt Suri Ji one of the most revered Acharyas in the history of Jainism.
