university, following the issuance for Banaras Hindu University.
The University of Mysore, situated in Mysore, Karnataka, holds a significant historical legacy. Established during the reign of Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV, the Maharaja of Mysore, it was inaugurated on July 27, 1916. Under the visionary leadership of the Maharaja, the university marked its inception with a commitment to providing quality education and fostering intellectual growth in the region.
During its formative years, the university operated under the patronage of the Maharaja of Mysore, who served as its first chancellor. The inaugural Vice Chancellor was H. V. Nanjundaiah, a distinguished academician. Notably, the University of Mysore holds the distinction of being the first university outside the British administration in India. It stands as the sixth oldest university in the country and holds the honor of being the first university in the state of Karnataka.
