Kolkata Mint Issues Make in India Special Box Set for Bookings

The India Government Mint, Kolkata has opened bookings for a special box set issued to mark the 10th Anniversary of Make in India. The bookings commenced on August 4, 2026, and the set is being offered in limited quantities.

The Make in India ₹100 coloured commemorative coin, India's first-ever coloured coin, was released by the Hon'ble Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, on September 20, 2025, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the flagship Make in India initiative.

The India Government Mint, Kolkata, has introduced a limited-edition special presentation set housed in a premium jute box. The set contains ₹100 two coins and is priced at ₹22,964.

However, the pricing of the set has once again drawn attention to the India Government Mint, Kolkata's pricing policy. Despite a noticeable decline in silver prices over recent weeks, the Mint has not revised the prices of its commemorative coin products. In contrast, product prices have consistently been increased almost immediately whenever silver prices rise. This apparent one-sided implementation of the dynamic pricing policy has disappointed collectors, dealers, and the wider numismatic community.

Collectors argue that while upward revisions are implemented promptly, corresponding reductions are either significantly delayed or not reflected at all when silver prices decline. Such an approach undermines confidence in the pricing mechanism, raises concerns about fairness and transparency, and creates the impression that the policy is applied selectively. As a result, many collectors have become reluctant to purchase new commemorative coin issues, while some have even chosen to step away from the hobby altogether.

The limited-edition special box set is reportedly available through the Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited (SPMCIL) sales counter in New Delhi, at the India Government Mint, Kolkata sales counter, and through the official India Government Mint online booking portal, with updates available in the current and upcoming bookings section.

Govt Clears RBI Pilot for ₹10 and ₹20 Polymer Banknotes

The Government of India has taken the first formal step towards the possible introduction of polymer banknotes after approving the Reserve Bank of India's proposal to conduct field trials of polymer-based ₹10 and ₹20 notes. The Ministry of Finance has authorised the RBI to print one billion pieces (one hundred crore) each of the ₹10 and ₹20 polymer banknotes for pilot circulation across selected regions of the country. The approval was confirmed by the Minister of State for Finance, Shri Pankaj Chaudhary, in a written reply to questions raised in the Lok Sabha.
