PM Modi Releases Guru Nanak Dev Ji Thai Souvenir Token in Bangkok

The Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi released a special commemorative token marking the 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, and also unveiled the Thai translation of the Tamil classic ‘Tirukkural’, ahead of his address at the Sawasdee PM Modi event in Bangkok on November 2, 2019.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister highlighted the deep-rooted civilisational, cultural, and spiritual bonds between India and Thailand. He remarked: “The relationship between India and Thailand is not attributed to any particular government. No single government can claim credit for this relationship. Every moment shared between the two countries in the past has contributed to building and strengthening this bond,” underscoring the timeless and collective nature of the partnership.

The commemorative token released in Bangkok reflects India’s global outreach in honouring Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s enduring messages of peace, equality, and universal brotherhood. Several neighbouring countries, including Nepal and Pakistan, have already issued commemorative coins to mark the historic 550th Prakash Parv, highlighting the widespread reverence for the Sikh Guru across borders.

In India, the official release of the ₹550 commemorative coin—minted to mark this monumental anniversary—is scheduled to take place around November 9, 2019, aligning with national and global celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 550th birth anniversary. The release of this coin will further enrich the significance of the occasion, serving as India’s numismatic tribute to the revered spiritual leader.
