New One Rupee Currency Notes 2020 Coming Soon

Although one rupee notes were reintroduced in 2015 and printed in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018, the Government of India is set to release new one rupee denomination currency notes in 2020, featuring some changes. Unlike other denominations, the one rupee notes will be printed by the Ministry of Finance, deviating from the usual practice where the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) prints other denominations.

The obverse side of the one rupee note will feature the words “भारत सरकार‟ above "Government of India," along with the bilingual signature of Shri Atanu Chakraborty, Secretary, Ministry of Finance. Additionally, it will include a replica of the New Rupee One coin with the '₹' symbol of 2020, issued with ‘सत्यमेव जयते‟ and a capital inset letter ‘L’ in the numbering panel.

As per the notification, the numbering will be in black at the bottom right portion of the note, in ascending size of numerals from left to right, with the first three alphanumeric characters (prefix) remaining constant in size.

On the reverse side, the one rupee note will display ‘भारत सरकार‘ above "Government of India," featuring the year 2020 on the representation of the One Rupee coin with ‘₹‘ symbol. The design will showcase grains, symbolizing the agricultural dominance of the country, along with a depiction of 'Sagar Samrat,' the oil exploration platform. The authentic rendering of the value will be in fifteen Indian languages in the language panel, with the year figure shown vertically between “Sagar Samrat” and the language panel in international numerals.

The overall color of the one rupee currency note will predominantly be pink and green on both the obverse and reverse sides, in combination with other colors.

These one rupee denomination notes will be printed by the Ministry of Finance. Furthermore, multi-tonal watermarks will be incorporated into the new one rupee denomination notes.
