New Commemorative Coin: New Parliament Building

The Government of India will issue a ₹75 commemorative coin to mark the inauguration of New Parliament Building. The Ministry of Finance issued a gazette notification on May 25, 2023, confirming this coin.

The Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new Parliament building on May 28, 2023. The ceremony will feature a grand puja, the installation of the historic Sengol, the screening of two short films, and the release of a commemorative coin and postage stamp.

The new Parliament building forms a key component of the Central Vista Redevelopment Project, launched by the Government of India in 2019. This ambitious project includes the redevelopment of Kartavya Path, the construction of a new residence for the Vice President, a new office and residence for the Prime Minister, and the integration of various ministerial offices into a single Central Secretariat.

The metal composition of the ₹75 coin will consist of a Quaternary Alloy, comprising 50% Silver, 40% Copper, 5% Nickel, and 5% Zinc. The coin will weigh 35 grams and have a diameter of 44 mm, featuring 200 serrations along the edge. The coin's description is as follows.

Obverse:  The face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capital of Ashoka Pillar in the center with the legend "सत्यमेव जयते" inscribed  below, flanked  with the  word “भारत” and  "INDIA" at right and left periphery of the coin with Rupee Symbol "₹” and denomination  value “75” in International Numerals below the Ashoka Lion Capital.

Reverse: The face of coin shall bear the image of Parliament Complex. The inscription "संसद संकुल" shall be written in Devanagari script on the upper periphery and the inscription "PARLIAMENT COMPLEX" in English shall be written on the lower periphery of the coin. The year "2023" in the International numerals shall be written below the image of Parliament Complex.
