Fact Check: ₹500 Banknote Featuring Lord Ram’s Portrait

As the grand consecration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya approaches, an image of a ₹500 banknote has emerged on the internet, depicting Lord Ram. Widespread claims suggest that the image of Lord Ram has replaced Mahatma Gandhi on the banknote.

It is important to note that as of now, neither the Central Government nor the Reserve Bank of India has made an official announcement regarding the issuance of new 500 rupee notes featuring images of Lord Ram and the Ram temple. This supposed commemoration is in connection with the consecration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya on January 22, 2024.

These banknotes are manipulated creations intended to deceive individuals by exploiting the sentiments associated with the Ayodhya Ram Mandir.

The most recent ₹500 banknotes were introduced in 2016, concurrently with the issuance of ₹2000 banknotes, followed by denominations of ₹10, ₹20, ₹50, ₹100, and ₹200. However, as part of the "Clean Note Policy," the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has decided to withdraw the ₹2000 denomination banknote from circulation in 2023.

In conclusion, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has not issued any new ₹500 banknote featuring an image of Lord Ram; the viral image is digitally fabricated.
