Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat Unveils ₹200 Coin on Rani Channamma

The Hon'ble Union Minister of Culture & Tourism, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, unveiled the ₹200 commemorative coin to mark the 200 years of Rani Channamma’s victory at Kittur. The event was held at Siri Fort Auditorium, August Kranti Marg, New Delhi, on October 24, 2025.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of Swami Vachanananda from Karnataka. Several dignitaries, historians, cultural scholars, and representatives from Karnataka also attended the commemoration, celebrating Rani Channamma’s enduring legacy and her remarkable contribution to India’s early freedom struggle.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that Rani Chennamma is an immortal name in Indian history — a valiant queen who defeated British forces with the small army of her state. The victory she achieved at Kittur in 1824 became a source of inspiration for India’s freedom struggle.

He added, “Today, I had the privilege to participate in the program organized by the Ministry of Culture in Delhi, marking 200 years of Rani Chennamma’s victory, where I also witnessed the vibrant culture of Karnataka. On this occasion, an exhibition was also inaugurated.”

He further stated, “Women should draw inspiration from Kittur Rani Chennamma and strive for success; her story should not remain confined to books.”

This release marks the 25th commemorative coin for the year 2025, minted by the India Government Mint, Hyderabad. The bookings for the Proof and UNC sets are expected to open soon on the India Government Mint’s website and will be updated under the current and upcoming bookings section.
