Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan Unveils ₹100 Coin on Andhra University
The Vice President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, unveiled a ₹100 commemorative coin and a postal stamp to mark the Centenary Year of Andhra University at the AU Engineering College Grounds in Visakhapatnam today, April 27, 2026.
The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, Governor Shri S. Abdul Nazeer, Union Minister of Civil Aviation Shri K. Ram Mohan Naidu, former Vice President of India Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, Governor of Odisha Dr. K. Hari Babu, and former India cricketer Shri Sachin Tendulkar were present among other distinguished dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, the Vice-President said it was a privilege to be part of the centenary celebrations of Andhra University, describing it as an institution that has shaped generations of students and contributed greatly to nation-building. He paid tribute to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, whose vision of education combining intellect and character continues to inspire.
He also highlighted the association of eminent personalities with Visakhapatnam, including C. V. Raman and former Vice-President Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, while noting that the University has produced many distinguished achievers.
The Vice-President praised the rapid progress of Andhra Pradesh under Chief Minister Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu. He said Visakhapatnam is emerging as a major hub for IT, tourism, electronics, digital infrastructure, and data centres.
He congratulated the people of Andhra Pradesh on Amaravati being declared the permanent capital of the State, calling it a decision that provides clarity and stability for the future. Referring to the vision of India as a developed nation, he said strong States are essential for a strong nation.
Concluding, he said success requires patience, citing Sachin Tendulkar as an example, and urged people to learn from failures, manage pressure, and face life with confidence.
This release marks the 6th commemorative coin of the year 2026, minted by the India Government Mint, Hyderabad. It is also noteworthy that there was a gap of more than two months since the previous release, offering some relief to collectors.
The bookings for the Proof and UNC sets are expected to open soon on the official India Government Mint website and will be updated under the current and upcoming bookings section.
