commemorative coin of ₹350 will be issued to mark the 350th Martyrdom Day of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur. The Ministry of Finance has issued the gazette notification on November 24, 2025.

The 350th Martyrdom Day of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Guru of the Sikhs, is observed with deep reverence across India and beyond. This day commemorates the supreme sacrifice of a spiritual leader who stood unwaveringly for human rights, freedom of faith, and justice, even in the face of death.

Born in 1621, Guru Tegh Bahadur emerged as a guiding light during a time of religious persecution under the Mughal Empire. Renowned for his humility, wisdom, and spiritual depth, he devoted his life to defending the oppressed and protecting the rights of those denied the freedom to practice their faith. His teachings emphasized moral courage, compassion, and selfless service—values that remain deeply relevant today.

In 1675, Guru Tegh Bahadur made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the religious freedom of Kashmiri Pandits and all those facing forced conversion. Arrested and executed in Delhi, his martyrdom symbolizes the highest form of selflessness—choosing the welfare of humanity over personal safety. This act of supreme courage earned him the title “Hind Di Chadar” (Protector of India) and continues to inspire millions.

The 350th Martyrdom Day is observed with prayers, processions, and gatherings at Gurdwaras and spiritual centers. Sikhs and people of all communities remember his teachings and reflect on his unwavering commitment to justice, human dignity, and freedom of conscience. Educational and cultural programs highlight his life, sacrifices, and the historical context in which he stood against oppression.

Guru Tegh Bahadur’s martyrdom is not only a significant chapter in Sikh history but also a timeless lesson in courage, selflessness, and humanity. The observance of this day reinforces the importance of upholding the values of justice, compassion, and religious freedom, ensuring that the legacy of a saint who gave his life for the rights of others continues to inspire future generations.
