2022 - Srimat Swami Pranavanandaji Maharaj | Commemorative Coin

The 4th commemorative coin of 2022 was released to mark the 125th Birth Anniversary of Srimat Swami Pranavanandji Maharaj. A set of three coins ₹100, ₹50, and ₹10 was issued after a considerable period.

Swami Pranavananda, the revered spiritual leader and founder of the Bharat Sevashram Sangha, is remembered as one of the most influential saints of modern India, whose life was dedicated to the upliftment of humanity and the service of the nation. Born on January 29, 1896, in the village of Bajitpur in present-day Bangladesh, he was known in his early years as Binode Maharaj. From childhood, he displayed extraordinary spiritual inclination, compassion, and a deep sensitivity to the suffering of others. These qualities shaped his path toward becoming a guiding light for countless devotees and social workers across the country.

Endowed with an intense spiritual yearning, he underwent profound experiences that led him toward enlightenment at a young age. Recognizing his innate divinity and leadership, his contemporaries came to call him “Pranavananda,” meaning one immersed in the eternal sacred sound, the Pranava. His teachings emphasized selfless service, moral discipline, and devotion to God, grounded in the ideals of Sanatana Dharma. He believed that spiritual practice must go hand in hand with social responsibility, and his life became a powerful reflection of this philosophy.

In 1917, Swami Pranavananda founded the Bharat Sevashram Sangha, a socio-spiritual organization committed to humanitarian service and national integration. Under his vision and guidance, the Sangha became a major force in providing relief during natural disasters, caring for the underprivileged, and supporting education, healthcare, and cultural preservation. His emphasis on organized service inspired thousands of monks and volunteers to work tirelessly for the welfare of society, upholding values of discipline, dedication, and universal brotherhood.

Swami Pranavananda’s life was also deeply connected to the spirit of India’s freedom movement. Although not directly involved in political activities, he inspired many to imbibe courage, patriotism, and moral strength. He believed that spiritual awakening and national regeneration must go hand in hand, and his message of unity and resilience resonated widely during a turbulent period in Indian history.

His teachings continue to inspire people to live meaningful lives rooted in compassion, devotion, and service. Swami Pranavananda left his physical form on January 8, 1941, but his legacy remains alive through the countless institutions, relief missions, educational programs, and spiritual initiatives undertaken by the Bharat Sevashram Sangha. Today, he is revered not only as a saint and reformer but also as a visionary whose life embodied the highest ideals of selflessness and universal welfare.
