The Government of India will issue a ₹100 commemorative coin as part of the Centenary Celebration of Mahanayak Uttam Kumar . The Ministry of Finance issued a gazette notification on September 3, 2026, confirming this coin. Mahanayak Uttam Kumar, born Arun Kumar Chatterjee on September 3, 1926, was one of the most celebrated actors in the history of Indian cinema. Revered as the “Mahanayak” of Bengali cinema, he captivated audiences with his remarkable acting, charismatic screen presence and versatility. His unforgettable partnership with Suchitra Sen created some of the most iconic films of Bengali cinema. With classics such as Saptapadi, Harano Sur, Nayak and Antony Firingee, Uttam Kumar left an enduring legacy that continues to inspire generations. He passed away on July 24, 1980, but remains an immortal figure in Indian cinema. The metal composition of the ₹100 coin will consist of Pure Silver (99.9%).
