New Commemorative Coin: 75 Years of FAO
The Government of India will issue a commemorative coin to mark the '75 years of Food and Agricultural Organisation'. The coin will have a denomination of Rs 75, as confirmed by the Ministry of Finance through a gazette notification issued on September 17, 2020.
The metal composition of the Rs 75 coin will consist of a Quaternary Alloy, comprising 50% Silver, 40% Copper, 5% Nickel, and 5% Zinc. The coin will weigh 35 grams and have a diameter of 44 mm, featuring 200 serrations along the edge. The coin's description is as follows.
The obverse of the coin features the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the center, accompanied by the inscription “सत्यमेव जयते” below. The upper periphery displays the words “à¤ारत” in Devanagari script and “INDIA” in English, with a five-pointed star between them. Additionally, the coin bears the denominational value “75” in International Numeral, along with the words “रुपये” in Devanagari script and “RUPEES” in English on the lower periphery. The inscriptions on the upper and lower peripheries are separated by dashes on either side.
On the reverse side, a fully bloomed lotus floating on water takes center stage, flanked by ears of cereal on each side. Above the lotus, the rising sun is depicted, intersected by the upper periphery. The English inscription “FAO” encircles a sketch of the sun. Below the lotus, the international numeral “2020” is accompanied by the Devanagari inscription “सही पोषण देश रोशन” along the bottom periphery of the coin.
It's noteworthy that the obverse of the coin does not incorporate the "₹" symbol, despite its adoption on coins since the year 2011. The coin's design bears resemblance to the commemorative coins issued with the theme "Food For All" in 1970 and 1971. The commemorative coin is expected to be released on October 16, 2020, aligning with World Food Day.
